  • Notes
    • The war hung heavily over the inaugural speeches of County of Waterloo wardens. Here is a portion from Warden William J. Pelz's opening remarks in 1941. "The war has brought as many new developments here as elsewhere in Canada. Waterloo County is marching in complete unison, with every other County in the Dominion, in a great and necessary work. Great numbers of our men and women are on active service, many serving outside the borders of the Dominion. To all those who courageously stand between the ruthless aggressors of Europe, and the safety and security of our fireside here, I say on behalf of all Waterloo County, GOOD LUCK: May Victory crown your heroic efforts, and may God grant you safe return to your loved ones."
