      PRESTON - Ailing since April 13 this year when she suffered a stroke, Dora Caroline Ratz, 71, wife of the Rev. G. Clifton Gifford, died Saturday at her home, 138 Fountain St., Preston.

      Born in Preston she lived here all her life with the exception of 20 years spent in Tavistock and Seaforth. She was engaged in the insurance business in Preston from 1935 to 1951. Her first husband Adam E. Ratz, predeceased her in 1935 and she was married to Rev. Mr. Gifford in January, 1951. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church.

      Mrs. Gifford was an accomplished pianist, cellist and guitarist, and at one time played the cello in the Galt Symphony Orchestra. She was also a talented artist, acquiring a considerable reputation for her ability to paint in oils.

      From the inception of the Preston Springs Home Mrs. Gifford entertained almost daily with her music for the enjoyment of the residents of the home, until the time of her illness. Also, until the time of her illness she and her husband held services in the Preston Springs home every Sunday evening.

      The body is resting at the Stager Pass Ltd., funeral home until tomorrow at 1 p.m., then at the Zion United Church where service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Interment wil be in the adjoining cemetery.
