  Frank Steeb (1908-1971) was born in Strasbourg, Alsace Lorraine but grew up in Germany. He was the son of Karl Heinrich Steeb and Hermine Wagner. In 1927, Frank immigrated to Canada on board the Montnairn arriving at Saint John, NB. An uncle had immigrated the previous year and settled near Drumbo. Frank initially worked at the same farm as his uncle but found work at Kaufman Rubber as a patternmaker and moved to Kitchener. Frank had trained as a plasterer in Germany, and during the Depression he took odd jobs painting or wallpapering to help augment the family income. By the early 1940s, Frank stopped working at Kaufmans and operated his own painting and decorating business.
