    • Thomas Henry Callahan was born at Wooler on December 23, 1879, son of Thomas Callahan and Henrietta McKenna. He received his early education in the little red schoolhouse in Wooler, then attended the Trenton High School and graduated in Medicine from the University of Toronto in 1907. Dr. Callahan married Augusta Noll on August 15, 1912. He soon established himself at Kitchener, where he practiced until 1918 and was the staff Abdominal Surgeon for St. Mary's Hospital there; he removed to Toronto, where he was associated with St. Michael's Hospital. His special interests were weekend farming and breeding thoroughbred horses at his farm in Wooler. He was the breeder of the 1938 Canadian Champion, Mona Bell, who finished second in the King's Plate in 1938, losing to Bunty Lawless, later named Canada's horse of the half-century. Dr. T. H. Callahan died at Toronto on August 14, 1946, aged 66 years, 7 months and 21 days.
