    • FOUNDER OF FIRST HARNESS SHOP IN PRESTON PASSES

Peter Rock, Member of Separate School Board Forty-One Years, Dies After Month’s Illness

Peter Rock, King street, who for the past 41 years, has been a faithful member of St. Clement’s school board and for many years conducted a harness shop in Preston, passed away this morning, in his 81 year. He had been ill but a month and his death proved a great shock to citizens today. Altho a well known and highly esteemed character in the business life of Preston, the late Mr. Rock, while keenly interested in separate school affairs, did not take an active part in municipal matters. He spent practically his whole life in Preston, coming here when three years of age and settling with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Rock. Peter Rock was born in Alsace Lorriane, France and emmigrated to Buffalo with his mother and father, but the family only stayed a short time, before coming here. He established what was the first harness shop in town and after many years of successful businesss, sold out to a man named Everett. This proprietor eventually turned the business over to another owner. It is still operating, Philip Fehenbach, being the owner now. There are surviving a sister, Catherine Rock, Preston and two daughters, Mrs. R. Henning, and Beatrice Rock, both of Preston, one brother, Martin predeceased him seven years ago. The funeral will take place, Thursday morning at nine o’clock, from the late residence and thence to St. Clement’s church for mass. Later interment will be made in the R.C. Cemetery. Rev. Fr. Meyer will officiate.
