- 'Grand Old Man' Passes In Preston

PRESTON Preston's Grand Old Man, Thomas Hepburn, died at his home, 1351 King St., Preston, last night.
In his 96th year he lived in Preston for 72 years and had been seriously ill for five weeks.
Born on a farm near Oshawa, Mr. Hepburn came here after completing a course at the University of Toronto. He was employed with the W. D. Hepburn Shoe Co., for two years and then worked for the George Pattinson woollen mill. He was sales manager of the firm and retired 25 years ago.
SERVES CHURCH
Mr. Hepburn served 59 years as superintendent of Knox Presbyterian Church Sunday school and was an elder of the church since 1883. He served on various church boards and at the time of his death was still clerk of the session. He also sang in the choir.
A former trustee and chairman of the Preston School Board, he also served on the board of the Galt Collegiate and was one of the early members of the Preston Library Board. He was a member of the Preston Lawn Bowling Club. He was the last surviving member of a family of 10. His wife, Emily Hinderer, died in 1941.
DAUGHTER SURVIVES
Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Arthur Matthews (Leila) of Preston. A grandson, Ronald Matthews, was killed in the RCAF in 1944. The body is resting at the Stager-Pass Ltd., Funeral Home until Monday at 1 p.m., then at Knox Presbyterian Church for service at 2:30. Entombment will be in Mount View Mausoleum, Galt.
