- COOPER, JOHN ALEXANDER
At the Private Patients Pavilion of Toronto General Hospital, on Monday afternoon, February 23, 1970, of 125 Krib St. in Hespeler, in his 69th year, following a brief illness. Husband of Elizabeth Hortop. Also survived by a brother, Albert of Fisher Mills; a sister, May (Mrs. John Thompson) of Sault Ste. Marie. Predeceased by two brothers. He was a well-known and highly respected resident of Hespeler and area, who was particularly active in the life of the community. He was born in Puslinch Township on March 30, 1901 and had lived in Hespeler and Fisher Mill area all his life. For six years, from 1960 to 1965, he served as a councillor on the Hespeler Municipal Council and was also a former chair of the Industrial Commission in Hespeler. A member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, he was a member of the Board of Managers. Active in Masonic and Oddfellow circles, he was a member and past noble grand of the Hespeler I. O. O. F. Lodge, a member and past master of the New Hope Masonic Lodge, a charter member of the Concord Lodge, a member of the Royal City Lodge of Perfection and Rose Croix, a member of the Moore Sovereign Consistory of Hamilton and a shriner with the Mocha Temple in London. Mr. Cooper was a commercial traveller with the Trilon Chemicals of Lachine, QC, until the time of his death. Service at the Nelson Funeral Home, 23 Galt St. in Hespeler on Thurs., Feb. 26 at 8 p. m. Interment was in Hespeler Cemetery, following cremation. Memorial services were held on Wednesday evening at 7 by the Hespeler I. O. O. F. Lodge and at 7: 30 by the New Hope Masonic Lodge.
