Notes |
- A SAD AND SUDDEN DEATH
Robert Reid, a life-long resident of Ayr, till within three years ago, when with his family, he started a sawmill at Hepworth, Ont., had for the past four weeks been visiting his brothers and sisters around the old home at Reidsville. After a delightful sojourn he returned home to his family last Thursday evening. He spent Friday forenoon noting with pleasure the diligence and success which attended the work of his sons during his absence. He sat down to dinner in splendid spirits, rehearsing to his family some incidents of his visit and looking with hopeful anticipation to the present at the reunion of the family at Reidsville, on August 24th. In this mood and noticing the prattle of his granddaughter, a piece of meat stuck in his throat. Every effort was made to remove it, but in vain. In three minutes he was dead. In a moment the house of joy was turned into mourning. His body was brought to the home of W. I. Reid. Esq.,on Saturday evening, from which place it was buried on Sabbath afternoon, in Cedar Creek cemetery. Religious services were conducted by Revs. J. S. Hardie and J. Thompson of Ayr. The Masonic order, of which deceased was a member, took charge of the corpse and placed it in the grave with Masonic honors. The Reformer extends to the bereaved sons and daughters, the departed's brothers and sisters and friends its sincere sympathy in their very sad, sudden bereavement.
