John Nahrgang, Sr. aged 78 years, died at 11:05 last. night from strychnine poisoning he having taken the drug sometime during the morning with suicidal intent. He came here from Berlin, Ontario a week ago Friday to to spend the winter with his sons John Nahrgang the tailor, and Robert Nahrgang the harness maker. He look room 1, at the old Shorb house of East Main street, near where his sons' shops are located Yesterday morning he drank considerably and is shortly before noon told Robert Nahrgang that he had taken poison. The old man had made made frequent attempts to end his life during the past twenty years, and at first the son was inclined to think that his, father was not in earnest. Later, however, the father got sick so John Nahrgang, Jr. was notified of what had said and it was thought best to call a physician. Dr. A. F. Wilhelmy was called at 1 o'clock, and when he arrived the man was in convulsions and there were signs of strychnine poisoning. Dr. Wilhelmy used a stomach pump and emptied the stomach two or three times, but the quantity of poison taken must have been very great. Dr. Wilhelmy worked with Mr. Nahrgang till 11:05 when the man died. Mr. Nahrgang was conscious all the time and tried to get the doctor not to try to save his life, saying he wanted to die.
Deputy Coroner Roy Brreluse? was notified and after he arrived the body was taken to the undertaking establishment of C. E. Dawson & Co. and prepared for burial. This morning it will be takes to the home of Robert, Nahrgang, 852 West Wood street.
Besided the two sons in Decatur. Mr. Nahrgang leaves a wife at Berlin, Ontario and a daughter Hattie Nahrgang at Galt, Ontario. Mr. Nahrgang would have been 78 years old next March. The label on the bottle was that of the Roos? pharmacy, Berlin, Ontario and the dirty condition of the label showed that the bottle had been carried for a long time. Despondency is the only motive assigned. The inquest will be held Monday
