DOCTOR DEAD AT DESK DOZEN CLOCKS TICK ON

Police, Firemen Break Into Home, Find Dr. Andrew Ruppert, 75, in Chair

The eight-day clocks he had collected for years ticked on mechanically while Dr. Andrew Ruppert, 75, sat dead in his Seaton St. office Saturday. The last glimpse neighbors had of him alive was Wednesday evening. Coroner Dr. Julian Loudon attributed death to a heart attack.
The elderly medical man was sitting in his chair at his desk with a pile of newspapers and books before him. A dozen or more clocks ticked on in the book-lined room, where volumes of poetry, philosophy and history stood side by side.

Attention of police was drawn to the house Saturday when a patient went to No. 4 police station after failing three or four times to get an answer at the house. When police found the doors locked, they called the fire department. A ladder was raised and an upstairs window pried
open. Dr. Ruppert lived alone and heated only the one room with a stove. It was out, and the house was cold.

The doctor's brother, Edward Ruppert, who farms on the old homestead near New Hamburg, came to the city and took his brother's body home for burial. Dr. Ruppert was born in 1865, and had no relatives in Toronto.
