- Joseph Martin, "the seventh son of Peter and Anna (Zimmerman) Martin, was born in Earl Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, December 4th, 1811. When in his eighth year he with his parents and other members of the family moved to Canada and resided in Woolwich Township, a few miles north of Waterloo where he died March 21st, 1856. He was married to Susannah Wenger. After his death she with her family of six children moved to Michigan where she has since died."

A-1-180 Joseph C. Martin Guardianship petition
That Joseph C. Martin, late of the Township of Waterloo, aforesaid Yeoman, departed this life on or about the 27th March 1856 leaving the said Anna Martin, Simon Martin, Zimmerman Martin and Susanna Martin minors under the age of twenty one years and that they have no legal guardian. That Susanne Martin, of the Township of Waterloo, aforesaid the mother of the said minors is a fit and proper person to be appointed guardian of said minors…
BOND: …that we, Susanna Martin of the Township of Waterloo, widow, Joel Good of the Village of Waterloo, conveyancer and John Meyer of the Township of Woolwich, Esquire, are held and firmly bound unto Anna Martin of the Township of Waterloo, infant daughter of Joseph C. Martin, late of the Township of Waterloo, Yeoman, deceased, in the penal sum of four hundred pounds to be paid to the said Anna Martin or her heirs executors or administrators to which payment well and truly to be made we do bind ourselves and each of us by himself…

A-1-95 Joseph C. Martin Probate of the will of Joseph C. Martin, late of the Township of Waterloo, granted the 2nd day of July 1856 in the petition of Moses Shantz and Susanna Martin, the Executor and Executrix named in said will.
In the name of God, Amen. I Joseph C. Martin, of the Township of Waterloo, Yeoman, do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament…First, I will and devise unto my beloved wife Susanna, all my real and personal property. Namely the Real property consisting of the East End of Lot Number Ten of the German Company Tract of the Township of Waterloo containing two hundred and twenty four acres of land, until my youngest son Zimmerman becomes of the age of Twenty one years, at which time the whole of my property, (real and personal) shall be appraised by three impartial men chosen by my hereinafter named executor and executrix, but should my prefer selling all or any portion of my said property before that time she (with the approbation of my executor) shall be at liberty to do so, appraising the property as aforesaid, and should all or either of my sons desire to purchase the whole or any portion or portions of said property (whenever it shall or will be sold) at the appraisement they or either of them shall have the first opportunity of so doing ; but in case neither of my sons wish to take the property then the executor shall sell to the best advantages and the proceeds (after paying or retaining for my said wife her thirds) to be divided amongst all my children…
