    • James E. Welsh Passes

Following an illness of several weeks, James E. Welsh, an Ayr district farmer for some 30 years, died at his home on Thursday, in his 75th year. The late Mr. Welsh was born north of Roseville, near the Plains, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Welsh. On moving to this vicinity, he lived for a period of two years in Greenfield before taking over the farm now operated by his son, John, at the westerly limits of the village. He retired a few years ago. Mr. Welsh was an enthusiastic curler, one of the most active members of the Ayr Curling Club. He was a member of Knox United Church here. Surviving are his wife, the former Rose Gemmell; two sons, John of Ayr and Robert of Brantford, and two daughters, Mrs. J. C. (Mary) Tate of Brantford and Mrs. C. H. (Betty) Jackson of Ottawa. One brother and three sisters also survive: Edward Welsh, Expanse, Sask.; Mrs. John Abra (Christine), Ayr; Mrs. John McKellar (Annie), Galt, and Mrs. Delton Hallman (May) of Regina, Sask. There are six grandchildren. The Funeral The funeral was held from his late residence on Saturday, the service being conducted by Rev. W. D. Goodger, assisted by Rev. J. W. Currie. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery. The pallbearers were four cousins, John Bryden, Puslinch; William McKenzie, Preston; Thornton Welsh, Brantford, and John Wolfe, Guelph; George H. Lawrence and George C. Smye.
