• Notes

  Alfred Currie Roos:The Roos family lived in the Hespeler area. Alf went to school in a small rural school on Pine Bush Rd. near Hespeler. He completed grade 10. Alf worked at The R Forbes Company, from the age of 14years until he was 46 first as a woolen warper and then a superintendent. The company was sold to Dominion Woolens & Worsted who eventually replaced all the management with their own staff. Alf then searched for a small company to purchase and in 1929 he bought a rundown fuel company in Galt which he then named the Roos Coal Company. He owned this company until he sold it to his son Robert Peter Roos in 1949 just before his death. He was a self taught man who learned book keeping and business management himself. He would read a lot. Alf was also very civic minded and was involved in the amateur lacrosse association for many years although he did not play the sport himself. He was the President of the local club for several years and in 1927 was president of the Ontario Amateur Lacrosse Association. He was also on the Hespeler Town Council in the year that he died.
