Notes |
- Death of Mrs. Springer
We regret to state that the illness from which this well-known lady has been suffering for some months terminated in death on Thursday of last week. Mrs. Springer had been on a visit to Detroit, the sulphur baths in that city having been recommended for her complaint; and it was while there that she was stricken down. She was unconscious when Mr. Springer reached her bedside, and never rallied sufficiently to enable her to speak. Her funeral took place at Berlin on Sunday last, and of this the News says: -
"The funeral of Mrs. Springer on Sunday afternoon was probably the largest ever seen in Berlin. The day was very fine and almost every body seemed to be on the streets. There was a short service at the house when the crowd proceeded to St. Peter's Church, which with all its great capacity, didn't hold a quarter of the people who would have gone in if there had been room. The service in the church was interesting, the music good, and all who could understand the German, highly interested. The pall bearers were H. Kranz, E. P. Clement, John McDougall, Herman Rathman, George Moore, and John Unger. The remains were interred in the Waterloo part of the Mt. Hope Cemetery. People from all parts were present, Galt, Hespeler, Preston, Hamburg, Wellesley, Crosshill, Mornington and other places were represented, while some relatives had come a still greater distance."
