    • Recently Retired Dr. Shoniker Dies

      Dr. Harry Joseph Shoniker. 68, a Twin City physician for 33 years, died yesterday at his home at RR 1, Preston.

      He was the fourth Twin City physician to die this year. Dr. C. R. McCarville died Jan. 12 after 40 years of practice; Dr. J. M. Livingston, former medical director of the Mutual Life Assurance Company of Canada died Feb. 4, and Dr. of Canada died Feb. 4, and Dr. H. M. Lackner, a prominent Kitchener doctor, died May 15.

      Dr. Shoniker was born Nov. 18, 1895, at Lindsay, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Shoniker. He was graduated from the University of Toronto in 1922, and after three years of postgraduate work at St. Michael's Hospital set up practice in Kitchener at 54 Weber St. W. He retired just a few weeks ago.

      He was a past president of the K-W Academy of Medicine and for 35 years was a member of the St. Mary's Hospital medical advisory board. He was a former chief of staff at St. Mary's.

      He was a member of St. Aloysius RC Church, the Holy Name Society of St. Mary's RC Church, and a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

      Surviving are his wife, the former Hilda Marie Wintermeyer, whom he married in Kitchener in 1927; two sons, Dr. Thomas of Kitchener, David of Toronto; a daughter, A. G. (Peggy) Roehrig Jr. of Buffalo; three brothers, Thomas, George and Edward, all of Toronto, and five grandchildren. One sister predeceased him.

      The body is at the Schreiter Sandrock Funeral Home. where the rosary will be recited tomorrow at 3 p.m. A Knights of Columbus rosary service will be recited at 8: 30 p.m. Prayers will be said at the funeral home Saturday at 10: 30 a.m., followed by requiem high mass at St. Aloysisus RC Church at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.

      Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society will be appreci-ated as expressions of sympathy.
