• Notes

  The information on the headstone for William Sanderson is incorrect. It shows year of birth as 1809 and year of death as 1885. According to William's death registration, he died 18 Mar 1895 in Derby, Grey, Ontario at age 76. 1809 + 76 = 1885 (the years on the headstone). But 1895 - 76 = 1819. Census reports show conflicting information. The 1881 Census shows he was 56 years old, so born about 1825, while the 1891 Census shows he was 62 years old, so born about 1829. The records did show that he was 12 - 13 years older than his wife, Ann. Since William definitely died in 1895, not 1885, as confirmed by the death registration and the 1891 census, and since Ann was born in 1837 and William was about 13 years older, William was born by 1824. The year shown on the memorial reflects that he died at age 76.
