Notes |
- Miss Bessie Lein
Elmira residents were startled with the tragic death of Miss Bessie Lein, 43, popular and well-known Elmira lady, on Friday evening. Miss Lein was found dead in the basement of O. W. Reichard's general store, where she had been employed as a clerk, early on Friday evening. She had been in failing health for some time. only recently returning to work following a nervous breakdown.
When the late Miss Lein failed to go home after work on Friday evening, her sister called Mr. Reichard, who was under the impression that she had left the store around 6 p.m. Mr. Reichard did not leave for home until 6.30. Fearing that she might accidentally have been locked in the cellar. the merchant returned to the store to find Miss Lein dead. He notified proper authorities. Coroner Dr. C. C. Belyea, of Kitchener, who was called in the absence of Coroner Dr. LeRoy Wagner, Elmira, said an inquest was not necessary. Two local physicians were also immediately called to the scene of the tragedy.
The late Miss Lein was in her 43th year. She was a life-long resident of Elmira and a member of the Presbyterian church. She had most a pleasant disposition and was held in high esteem by her many Elmira friends.
Surviving are her father, Philip Lein, three brothers, Clarence, Carlyle and Lloyd, all of Toronto, and one sister, Lottie, at home. Her mother and one brother predeceased here.
Private funeral services were held from Dreisinger's Funeral Chapel on Monday afternoon. Rev. G. D. Little officiated. Interment was made in the Elmira cemetery.
