Notes |
- Mr. A. D. Vice
The death occurred on Wednesday morning of Mr. Alfred David Vice at his late residence in Elmira in his 68th year. He was well-known in Elmira and was one of the pioneers in respect to installing much of the machinery used in many Elmira manufacturing plants. Mr. Vice was born in London, England and came to Canada as a small boy to St. Marys, Ontario. He married Sarah Hamilton in St. Marys, who survives him. Mr. Vice came to Elmira in 1900. He supervised the erection of much of the machinery in the Elmira Felt and Great West plants. He later engaged in the foundry business on the site of the present Link Belt Company of which his son, ex-councillor A. H. Vice, is the manager today. The successful launching of several industries in town were aided in a great measure to the late Mr. Vice's wonderful mechanical engineering abilities. Surviving besides his widow, are two sons, A. H. Vice of Elmira, George of Galt and one daughter Evelyn (Mrs. Nicholson) of Port Kells, B.C. Two sons, Gordon and Eddie and two daughters, Grace and Wilby predeceased him. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Bailey of Vancouver, Mrs. Dunnell of Minot, Minnesota and Mrs. Moses of Elmira and one brother, George of Calgary. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock from his late residence where service will be held. Interment will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery, Kitchener. Rev. J. Ure Stewart will have charge of the service.
