Notes |
- BECKER, WILHELM first comes to notice through his card in the Berliner Journal of January 30, 1862:
Dr. Wilhelm Becker German Physician and Apothecary announces most respectfully to the inhabitants of New Germany and vicinity that he has located in the inn of Mr. Christian Hug, where he may be consulted at all times on all types of illness.
The issue of December 4 of that year informs us that he had his horse made off with, and a saddle and harness cut up. A month previously his pharmacy was demolished and almost all his clothes were burned. The paper points out that these villainous men were capable of even greater wickedness. This suggestion probably also occurred to Becker who departed, leaving behind unpaid newspaper accounts.
An item on March 2, 1865 refers to a train accident on which the wife of Dr. W. Becker, of Belmore, Bruce County was travelling en route to Berlin to visit her father, Mr. Anselm Wagner. No further trace of him has been found.
