    • JOHN MAY - On Saturday morning at 10 o'clock there passed away at his home 56 N. Cedar Street, Mr. John May, in his 77th year. Deceased had been a resident of the city for 30 years, and was well known, and highly respected n the city, especially among the older Germans.

      He was born in Schoenwald, West Prussia, Germany, in 1837, where he was united in marriage to Miss Justina Pfahl. Forty-five years ago they left the land of their birth for the United States, spending four years in Colombo, Carolina, and four years in Cleveland, Ohio, after which came to Breslau, where they owned a farm for seven years. Thirty years ago Mr. May purchased a farm within the city limits, near Breithaupt's tannery, living there until eight years ago, when he retired. During his residence in the city, he was a faithful member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.

      His wife predeceased him three years ago, and of eleven children, eight survive him, six of whom are respected residents of the city. They are Mrs. Stuehler, Mrs. Andrew Gildner, William, Henry, Conrad and Elizabeth of Berlin, and August, who removed in September last, to Alask, Sask. Gustave of Calgary, is also a son. Two brothers, and two sisters, Julius, who resides on the corner of Queen and Courtland Avenue, and Gustave of Victoria St., and Mrs. Fred Schmiegelski of Sheborgan, Wisconsin and Mrs. Carl Harhach, of Berlin.

      The funeral will take place on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from his late residence to St. Peter's Lutheran Church and St. Peter's cemetery.
