- Pedestrian Fatally Injured When Struck by Trolley Bus
Irvin (Ike) Roos Is Victim of Ice; Several Accidents
Knocked to the pavement by skidding trolley coach -proceeding west on King St. West at Young St. early yesterday afternoon, Irvin (Ike) Roos, 71, of 239 Victoria St. South, died at the K-W Hospital early today,
The injured man suffered, a fractured skull. His condition was reported by Dr. C. C. Belyea, attending physician, as "very serious after, the mishap. He did not regain consciousness.
The accident, occurred yesterday when the coach skidded on icy patch and hit Mr. Roos as he was crossing the road. The coach was stopping to pick up a passenger.
Driver of the trolley coach was John Doyle, 116 Benton St.
FORMER GROCERYMAN
A well-known figure in the Twin City, Mr. Roos was president of the Roos and Co., wholesale grocers, until 1921 when he retired. Prior to that the he was connected with the firm of Randall and Roos.
Born in Waterloo, Feb. 22, 1876, he was the son of the late William Roos and Elizabeth Davidson. His wife, the former Lillian Grace Wismer. whom he married July 2. 1901, predeceased him Sept. 28, 1942. He attended St. John's R.C. Church.
Surviving are one son, William, Port Elgin, and two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Baird, Winnipeg and Mrs. Margaret McKay, Kingston. One sister, the former Mrs. H. J. Sims, predeceased him in 1938.
The body will rest at the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home where prayers will be said at 8:30 a.m. Monday, followed by requiem high mass at St. John's R.C. Church at 9 o'clock.
Interment will be made in Woodland Cemetery. Rev. W. F. Gleason will officiate.
