- Mr. Louis Huehnergard Has Departed Life
Was Widely Known and Generally Respected
HE PASSED AWAY ON SATURDAY.
Succeeding a' stroke of paralysis suffered on Thursday last, Mr. Louis Huehnergard, of 38 Waterloo street, departed life on Saturday afternoon. He had been in indifferent health for some time but insisted on attending to the details of his business. During the severe storm of Wednesday, he caught a chill and the stroke followed the next day.
Mr. Huehnergard was born near Heidelberg on 15 December 1854, and was in his 63rd. year. In 1859 he came to this city and engaged in the butchering business. Beginning In a modest way, he built up an extensive trade, due to his intelligence and diligence. For a number of years his son Charles has been associated with him, under the firm name of Huehnergard & Co., on Waterloo street.
His wife's maiden name was Hannah Brodrecht. Mrs. Huehnergard predeceased her husband in 1905.
Five children survive heir union. They are Charles, Mrs. R. Fleischauer city; Mrs. J. W. Fleichauer of Wellesley, Dr. H. H. Huehnergard and Mrs. A. L. Bitzer of this city.
Four brothers each occupying important positions in their several communities mourn his death: Martin of this city; Conrad of Waterloo and Jacob and Edward of Detroit, Mich.
The late Mr. Huehnergard was a consistent member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. In politics he was a lifelong Conservative and active in his party's interests.
He was a good citizen in every sense of the word. Industrious, a home-maker, and square-dealing. He was a man of wide influence in the North Ward and was always ready to throw off his coat and work for any by-law or measure which would advance the welfare of the city he helped to make.
He and his wife and family belonged to that sterling class which laid the foundations and helped rear the commercial fabric so widely known today. They were good types of industry and thrift. They were dear to each other and firm in their friendships.
Thousands of citizens who knew the late Mr. Huehnergard will deplore his death and extend to his bereaved family their sincere condolences. In this the Record joins in extending its sympathy.
His remains were laid to rest this afternoon. At 2 o'clock the funeral cortege left the family residence and proceeded to St. Peter's Church for services and from thence to Mt. Hope cemetery for interment.
