- CAME TO BERLIN 52 YEARS AGO
Shortly before 8 o'clock on Sunday morning the death occurred of Conrad Gerbig, sr., who had been a resident of Berlin for over half a century.
Deceased although he had not been in the best of health for some time past did not become seriously ill until about a week and a half ago, Death was due to heart failure. He was 76 years, 9 months and 25 days old.
Deceased and his wife lived with their son Conrad, jr., whose home is on Wellington street.
He is survived by six daughters and two sons, three of the daughters being Mrs. Adam Seip, Baden; Mrs. Henry Bauer, Acton, and Mrs. Kate Spreen, Cincinnati, Ohio. The other three daughters are Mrs. John Hoffman, Buffalo, Miss Sophia Gerbig, and Mrs. August Trump, Berlin. The sons are Conrad, Jr., and Julius, of Berlin.
The funeral took place on Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the house to Mount Hope cemetery.
The late Conrad Gerbig was a native of Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany. He came to Canada 52 years ago. For a number of years before the appointment of Joseph Atkinson he acted as town constable of Berlin and afterwards became a county constable.
