Jacob Kreiner Passes Away
LEARNED HIS TRADE HERE. BUILT UP AN INDUSTRY NOW EMPLOYING 50 WORKMEN
Mr. Jacob Kreiner, Sr., one of Berlin's unostentatious, but effective Bigger Berlin Builders, passed away last evening at his home, after an illness of only a few weeks. An attack of la grippe developed into bronchitis, and when pneumopia fol- lowed. This was the immediate cause of his demise. He had reached the age of 74 years, eight months and 28 days. The funeral will be held on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from the residence, to St. Matthew's. Church and thence to Mt. Hope cemetery.
The late Mr. Kreiner was one of Berlin's sterling men - one who was a hard worker, thrifty and enterprising. He learned his trade as furniture worker, along with the late J. S. Anthes, and started into business for himself, on a small scale, 28 years ago. Now, the firm employs 50 workmen, and is known as J. Kreiner & Co., of which the deceased was the head.
He was born at Hausgreuth, Baden, Germany. After travelling in Germany and France, he emigrated to Canada where he was married to Margaret Schmidt in 1873. His marriage was blessed with 11 children 9 of whom survive him, viz: Fred, Jacob, Adam, Amelie, Theodore, Herbert and Harold Kreiner of this city. Mrs. J. Fuhr of Saskatoon. Sask., and Mrs. A. Hergenrader of Buffalo, N. Y. Mr. Kreiner was a faithful member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church where he will be greatly missed.
Mr. Kreiner was a staunch Conservative and a gentleman who enjoyed the respect of all whom he met. He took a keen interest in municipal affairs, being well informed on all local and general subjects, but he preferred the home life, and never took any active part in public affairs.
The News Record extends its condolences to the bereaved members of the family.
