ELMIRA. - The death occurred at, his late home, 8 South street, Elmira, on Saturday evening of Thomas J. Dillon, after an illness of several years. Of Irish descent, the deceased was in his 79th year, having been born in Berlin, now Kitchener, Ontario, July 22, 1861, the son of the late Margaret Healy and John J. Dillon. Moving to Elmira in 1903, in company with a number of practical furniture workers, Mr. Dillon organized the present Elmira Furniture Company, Limited, being president of this firm from its inception, until the present time, also holding the post of general manager in charge of sale sand production for many years. It was his business ability that was to a great degree responsible for making the products of this company known from coast to coast. Mr. Dillon was a member of the Canadian Manufacturers Association, and the Furniture Manufacturers Association. He was a devout member of St. Theresa's Roman Catholic church. Mr. Dillon was a strong supporter of the Liberal party, being vice-president of the North Waterloo Reform Association at the time that William Lyon Mackenzie King was member for North Waterloo: He was a member of the local town council for several years at the time the decision as made to pave the main street. In his earlier years Mr. Dillon was connected with the construction of the old Grand Trunk Railway at the time the Sarnia tunnel was built, and was in charge of the laying of the Kitchener-Waterloo Electric Street Railway, although the first cars were horse-drawn. Forty years ago he was actively interested in trade union circles in Kitchener. The family residence was, formerly on the site now occupied by the Merchants Rubber Company of Kitchener. Surviving are one daughter, Helen, at home, and one son, Gerald E., a former mayor of Elmira. His wife, the former Mary Mayer, predeceased him five years ago. Also surviving are three brothers, William J. of Toronto, Jeremiah of Elmira, and John of Anaheim, California, two sisters, Mrs. J. Gies of Kitchener, and Mrs. Margaret Carroll of Toronto, and eight grandchildren. The funeral was held Tuesday at 9.30 a.m. from his late residence, to St. Theresa's R.C. church for service with Rev. Father J. J. Arnold, conducting solemn high mass. Burial was made in Elmira R.C. cemetery.
