Notes |
- Death Of John Schilling
Due To Paralysis of The Heart
FOR OVER A QUARTER CENTURY WAS A RESIDENT OF BERLIN.
Paralysis of the heart caused the death of one of Berlin's oldest citizens, Mr. John Schilling, at his home, corner Edward and Shanley streets, on Sunday forenoon. Though not in robust health for some months, he had been able to be about, and was downtown last Monday. The funeral will take place on Tuesday at two o'clock in the afternoon from the family residence to St. Matthews Lutheran church and Mount Hope cemetery. Rev. Mr. Maas, of Preston, will conduct the service.
The late John Schilling was born in Reisenwald, Germany on June 13th, 1851, and was therefore 52 years, 10 months and 10 days old. He served as a private in the German army, and in 1875 came to Canada. He lived two years at Mosborough, coming to Berlin in 1875. He has resided here ever since. He was a mason by trade and was considered one of the ablest men in the masons ranks. He was a member of the union, and also belonged to the Ancient Order of United Workmen.
He is survived by a widow and family of seven children, viz.. John R., Charles R., Rosetta, Ida, Bertha Alvin and Arthur. Charles Schilling, Berlin, and Fred Schilling, Mosboro, are brothers of the deceased. He has another brother in Germany, Mrs. Louisa Kudoba, and Mrs. M. Midsonki, Buffalo, are surviving sisters.
