    • The first rubber tire manufactured at Dominion Tire in Berlin (now Kitchener) was built on January 6, 1914. 22 year-old Oscar Totzke was credited with making the tire \endash plain tread, all white, 30 inch diameter. It took about an hour for Oscar to complete the tire. Dominion Tire would eventually become part of the Uniroyal Goodrich Tire Company.

      Oscar Totzke Oscar H. Totzke, 60, of 528 Park St., died suddenly last night of a heart attack in his car at his home.

      Born May 16, 1889, in Kitchener, Mr. Totzke was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. August Totzke. A supervisor at the Dominion Rubber Co. tire plant, he had been employed in the Dominion Rubber System for the past 47 years.

      Mr. Totzke was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Canad- ian Order of Foresters.

      Surviving are his wife, the for- mer Ada Becker; three sons, Howard and Lloyd, both of Kitch- ener; Robert, Waterloo, and a daughter, Eunice, Kitchener.

      Also surviving are three brothers, Herman, Alfred and Clar- ence, all of Kitchener, and ten grandchildren. He was predeceased by one sister, Mrs. Edith Scherer, and a brother, Arno.

      The funeral service will be held at St. Matthew's Church Satur- day at 3:30 p.m. with interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Rev. Dr. John Schmieder, pastor of the church, will officiate.

      The body will rest at the Ratz- Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. West, until 1 p.m. tomorrow, when removal will be made to the church.
