  • Notes
    • Deplorable Accident in Galt - An accident attended with almost immediately fatal results, occurred at Messrs. Gilholm & Hogg's Saw Mill, in Galt, yesterday, (Thursday), a little before two o'clock. It appears that James Twomey, who runs the strip saw in the mill, was attending on the large circular saw, which was sawing some very long stuff. While sawing such lumber, it is necessary to have someone just in front of the saw to guide the stuff as it strikes the saw, and it appears that poor Twomey was engaged at this work and while so engaged his feet appear to have slipped from under him, causing him to fall on the stick immediately in front of the saw. Before he could recover himself the saw caught his head cutting deeply into the back of it and also partly into the neck. As soon as possible he was lifted away, but the work was done, and after a gasp or two, he was dead. Medical aid was at once sought for but of course was of no avail. The deceased leaves a wife and family to mourn his untimely end.
