    • Christian was the son of Phillip and Magdelene (Shodrun) Kappler. He was born in Germany about 1839. He immigrated to America the same year he enlisted in the Army.

      MILITARY RECORD:
      Enlisted September 10, 1863 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Assigned with Company "A" of 13 U.S. Infantry. Discharged September 10, 1868 at Ft. Shaw, Montana at expiration of enlistment. Pension was awarded on Certificate No. 1056971.

      A single man, Mr. Kappler was 5 foot five inches tall, had a light complexion, and was a resident of Snohomish County when he applied for admission to the Washington Veterans' Home. In July 1916 he was 77 years old and declared that he had lived continuously in Washington state since 1906.

      Mr. Kappler was admitted to the Home on October 5, 1916. He died March 19, 1923, at the age of 85 years at Retsil. He is buried in the Home Cemetery.
