• Notes

  Heinrich and his family immigrated to Canada in 1849, arriving in New York aboard the ship Bessel from Bremen, Germany. Heinrich was 34, his wife Elizabeth was 23 and their son Henry was 3 The 1852 Census finds them farming in East Zorra Township, Oxford County Ontario, with brothers Peter age 3 and Louis age 2 now part of the family. In the 1861 Census they are still in East Zorra but the transcriber records their name as Seal. Daughters Elizabeth, Catherine, Anna & Mary have been added as well as Jacob. The 1871 Census for East Zorra (surname spelled Theal) lists Heinrich as a Widower. Henry, Peter, Elizabeth, Catherine, Anne & Jacob still in the family home. Unable to find in 1881 Census, but in 1891 he (age 76 and surname spelled Shiel) is a lodger with the King family in East Zorra. In July of 1892 a notice appears in the Berliner Journal newspaper in Kitchener, Waterloo County that Heinrich Thiel died in East Zorra at age 77 years, 5 months Cemetery, E., America, N., Municipality, O., Zorra-Tavistock, E., & Cemetery, E.
