  HOOD, THOMAS There passed away on Sunday, December 13, 1908, one of Galt's best known residents, aged 65 years. He was born in Puslinch Township, coming to Galt when a young man. For a number of years, he was employed at the old Stewart Mill, where he became head miller, later acting in the same capacity for the late Gavin Hume. He then went to Cargill, where he followed his profession for a number of years, returning to Galt some three years ago to accept a position in Cherry's Mill. He had been ill with pneumonia for only a few days. He was a member of the Masonic Chapter and also of the C. O. F. and was a member of Knox Church. A man possessed of a sterling character, he made many warm friends. He was twice married, his first wife being a sister of the late Andrew Taylor. His second wife was a Miss McLaughlin of Galt, who with four children, survives: Thomas of Cargill; John of Saskatchewan; and Lizzie and Margaret, at home. A brother in Clyde and a sister in Guelph also survive. Mrs. Harry Pearson of Woolwich St., Guelph, is a sister. -Information from the death certificate: Born on March 1, 1844, son of John Hood and Margaret Elmslie. -Information from the marriage certificates: Born in Forfarshire, Scotland c. 1843.
