    • Some time prior to Sept. 12th, 1853, Thomas Hammett, an English Blacksmith, came here from Doon and started business probably in the Wiffler shop, and after 1853 he had his own shop on the lot at the corner of Queen and Adam until he moved to the "Hammett" farm in Waterloo Township where for years he did a bit of smithing, principally repair work, in a shop back near the Town line where evidences of it still remain.
