  Jacob Bretz, "son of Jacob and Maria (Strickler) Bretz, was married to Nancy Wiehler and resided on the old homestead where they had a family of eight children" Eby, Ezra E. (1895). A biographical history of Waterloo township and other townships of the county: being a history of the early settlers and their descendants, mostly all of Pennsylvania Dutch origin: as also much other unpublished historical information chiefly of a local character. Berlin [Kitchener, Ont.]: [s.n.]. ________________________________________ Aug. 17th near Plattsville, ON, Pre. Jacob Bretz, at the age of 79 years, 7 month and 6 days. He frequently manifested a desire to depart this life and be with the Lord, which is far better. On the morning of his death, his prayer was that the Lord would take him to Himself very soon, if it was the divine will and before 11 o'clock his spirit was gone, and the family left to mourn their loss; but their loss is his eternal gain. He was in the ministry 40 years. He was buried on the 20th. Funeral services by George Smith & ______ Fisher, from the latter part of the seventh chapter of Revelation.
