Notes |
- Michael L. Jantzi Killed In His Saw Mill At Newton
A frightful accident at the Newton saw mill last Monday morning by which the proprietor, Mr. Michael L. Jantzi, who lived near this village all his life until a year ago, lost his life. He was oiling the main shaft when a projecting bolt caught his clothing, and in an instant he was whirling around with the shaft. The machinery was at once stopped and the unfortunate man extricated but one leg had been torn off in those few awful seconds, while numerous other injuries had been sustained. He did not regain consciousness except for a momentary recognition of his wife who had rushed to his side. He died in about ten minutes after the accident. His remains were brought to the home of his father-in-law, Mr. Christian Zehr just west of this village, from whence the funeral is to take place this (Thursday) morning. He leaves a wife and four small children.
