  Popular Elmira Man William Bolender Dies At Age Of 74 Years One of Elmira's oldest businessmen, William Bolender, 74, died in the Guelph General Hospital Tuesday following a brief illness. Mr. Bolender had been active in his work until he suffered an attack just before Christmas. Born in Wallace 1880, Mr. Bolender began his apprenticeship in Elmira in 1901. He first worked for Martin Shoemaker who operated his cobbler business in the building presently occupied by the Dreisinger Funeral Parlor. In 1911 Mr. Bolender purchased the shoe repairing business from Mr. Shoemaker when the store was located in the old Dunke block at the southeast corner of Arthur and Church streets. The store was later moved to its present location on Arthur street and in 1945 Mr. Bolender's son, Woodrow, purchased the shoe sales business. In 1911, Mr. Bolender married the former Minerva Wittich who survives. The members of the family are a son Woodrow, Elmira and Mrs. Howard Brox (Kathleen) of Sebringville. Mr. Bolender was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren. Church. Funeral service will be held Saturday, 2:00 p.m., at Dreisinger's Funeral Parlor and Rev. J. Wesley Siebert will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmira Cemetery.
