    • William R. Bain Passes

Funeral service for the late William R. Bain, who passed away at 1 the home of his son, Charles, on Friday, was held at Knox United Church on Monday afternoon. A large attendance paid respects to one of the village's most popular figures. Rev. W. D. Goodger was the officiating minister. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery.

The pallbearers were: Clare Douglas, William McRuer, Clarence Davis, Gordon S. Dalrymple, Alvin Page and Anderson Marshall.

The late Mr. Bain was born on a farm near Caledonia on April 19, 1870, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Bain. He was married in Guelph on April 18, 1894, to Sarah Jane Abbey, she passed away in May of last year after the couple had passed their 59th wedding anniversary. The family moved to Greenfield in 1902, where Mr. Bain was employed as weighmaster at Goldie's mill. He retained this position for 38 years, until 1940, when the mill, then known as the Hecker\emdash H-O Co. Ltd., was forced to suspend operations because of the war. During this lengthy period he attained a reputation for skill and care at his exacting trade.

In 1910 the family moved to Ayr, where Mr. Bain lived out his span of years. Possessed of an excellent physique, Mr. Bain was steadily employed up until a short time ago, I when he suffered a fall on the ice which preceded his passing.

Always of cheerful nature and ready wit, Mr. Bain built about him a wide circle of close friends, and there were few in the community whom he did not count as at least a speaking acquaintance.

He was a member of Knox United Church and affiliated with the Independent Order of Foresters. Surviving are three sons and one daughter: Charles, Ayr; Mrs. C. B. Farnham (Minnie), Hamilton; William C., Wingham, and Robert of Toronto; also three brothers, John of Caledonia, and Thomas H. and Alex R., both of Vancouver. Ten grandchildren also survive.
