  Liquor Sale, Sheep Theft Charges Heard STRATFORD, Jan. 21. - Following a lengthy hearing before Magistrate J. A. Makins in police court on Saturday, Mrs. Annie Belinski, city was convicted on a charge of keeping liquor for sale. She was remanded for sentence. Mrs. Belinski also faces several charges of stealing sheep in this distinct within the past few months. One of these charges is being heard and the case was not completed when court adjourned late Saturday afternoon. Kitchener Daily Record 21 Jan 1935, Mon Page 2 _____________ WOMAN GETS JAIL TERM STRATFORD, Jan. 21.-(CP)- Convicted on a charge of stealing sheep from farmers in the county and keeping liquor for sale, Mrs. Annie Belinski today was sentenced to nine months in Mercer reformatory. Five other charges of sheep stealing are pending. William Metz and John Smith, city, who have pleaded guilty to six charges of sheep stealing are in jail awaiting sentence. It is said a young woman is Implicated in the case. 28 Dec 1933, Thu ·Page 11 _________________ Charged With Forging Perth Turnkey's Name LONDON, Ont., May 7.-(CP)- Alleged to have forged the name of a turnkey of the Perth county jail on a $152 cheque, John Smith, 20, of Stratford was given an adjournment until May 15, with ball at $4,000 when he appeared before magistrate T. W. Scandrett today. Adjournment was given at the request of defence counsel, Howard Cluff. Police say Smith was only released from the Perth county jail a short time ago after he was held in connection with theft of sheep in the Annie Belinski case in Stratford. Kitchener Daily Record 07 May 1935, Tue Page 8 ______________ Age Not A Bar For 'Bar' A 79-year-old Sandwich West Township woman, who was described by Magistrate W. S. Pearson of Sarnia as being "a remarkable person for her age" discovered that keeping liquor for sale did not pay off. Mrs. Ann Belinski of 1730 Mark Ave was convicted Friday in magistrate's court on the charge and fined $100 and costs. In addition, the ground floor of her home was declared a public place for one year. Police testified that on April 17 they went to the Belinski home. Two officers said they were dressed in plain clothes and, without identifying themselves, asked if they could buy "a half case of beer." They said the accused said they could only buy "a full case" and that it would cost $9. The full case was purchased. Evidence also showed that the officers returned to the premises later in the day and found, after producing a search warrant, three full bottles of whisky, four empty wine bottles, 12 full cases of beer and six full bottles of sherry. When asked by her defence counsel, Harold Rosenthal, what she was doing with all that liquor, Mrs. Belinski answered: "I have a large family and I bought it for the Easter holidays I did not buy any liquor for the purpose of selling it." The Windsor Star 29 May 1965, Sat Page 14 _________________ Court Baffled Doesn't Know Which One to Believe in Case; Dismisses Charge Off and on for the past three years, she has had to listen to being called thief, robber, and jailbird, Mrs. Ann Belinski, 359 Janette avenue, testified in city police court today against Mrs. J. De Froy, 367 Janette avenue, a neighbor, whom she had before Magistrate D. M. Brodie on a charge of using grossly insulting language on the public streets, an infraction of the public morals bylaw. But Mrs. De Froy denied the charge in toto, and in turn charged the complainant with being a general nuisance to residents of that street. The magistrate said he didn't know which one to believe, and dismissed the charge with the advice the principals refrain from having anything to do with one another. Prayers Sunday at 8 p.m. The Windsor Star Windsor, Ontario, Canada Fri, Jul 18, 1969 Page 40 ___________ Woman Hurt In Struggle Police Hold Man After Disturbance Rose Delaney, Ann Belinsky, Elaine Bromaroff and Harold Delaney entered a plea of "not guilty" to charges of wilful damage which resulted out of a fracas at Essex House Hotel last night. The four appeared in Magistrate Angus W. MacMillan's court this morning. CASE REMANDED The case was remanded until September 6, and the accused were free on their own recognizance in the sum of $200 each. Mrs. Belinsky, 530 Janette avenue, was injured in the scrap when. police were told, she rallied to the aid of Delaney after the proprietor, Peter Kovarbacik, had decided to eject Delaney. Delaney, police said, was accompanied by three women at the hotel, including his wife, Rose. After he had been put out because he was noisy, the Delaney party found a brick which they hurled through a plate glass window valued at $100. The disturbance took place near the bar. Mrs. Belinsky said she was assaulted by the proprietor, but the latter said he did not touch her and did not know how she had suffered the bruises about her face and forehead. Mrs. Belinsky also stated she lost her purse containing $80. Mike Dumanski and Steve Levichuck were charged with breaking and entering the warehouse: Harry Ellis was taken as a material witness, and Annie Belinski is charged with having liquor in her possession, not acquired on her permit. The Standard 29 May 1931, Fri Page 5 ______________ $7,000 Damage Action Dismissed STRATFORD, Sept. 28.-Following a two-day hearing Mr. Justice Nicol Jeffery in Supreme Court session late yesterday dismissed, without costs, a $7,000 damage action brought by Mrs. Annie Belinski city, against the Canadian Department Stores and David Hymers. bailiff. In dismissing the action Mr. Justice Jeffery said he believed the plaintiff had acted in a dishonest and fraudulent manner throughout the whole case. Mrs. Belinski's action was brought following the seizure of a radio at her home. She alleged trespass, illegal entry and wrongful seizure of the radio. Immediately after the judgment had been read, Crown Attorney A. M. Judd, K.C., asked for a copy of the written judgment and also a copy of the evidence taken at the trial earlier in the week. Magistrate J. A. Makins remanded her for sentence. The charge and conviction was the sequel to store robberies in St. Marys In December. Provincial police, in a recent raid, recovered a large quantity of goods at Mrs. Belinski's home. Harry Ellis, her son-in-law, has been committed for trial on a similar charge. Five arrests have been made since the police started their investigations Into the robberies. Makins in magistrate's court at Stratford on Tuesday morning. On Monday she was convicted on one charge and sentenced to six months in Mercer Reformatory. Tuesday she pleaded not guilty to the additional five charges, arising from provincial police investigation into sheep thefts in recent months, and she was remanded until Wednesday.
