Conrad Hoffman, beloved husband of the late Ann Elizabeth Robitsch, in his 96th year. Resting at the Stager-Pass Ltd., funeral home from where the funeral will be held on Wedneaday, Sept. 20th, at 2: 30 p.m. Interment in the Preston cemetery. Kitchener Daily Record 18 Sep 1944 pg 13 _____________ Conrad Hoffmans Oldest Waterloo, Preston Residents Conrad Hoffman of Waterloo and Conrad Hoffman of Preston are the oldest residents of their respective municipalities. This fact came to light today Mr. Hoffman of Preston yesterday celebrated his 95th birthday. Mr. Hoffman of Waterloo, three years his senior, observed his 98th birth day on Wednesday The two are no relation and as far as can be learned have never met Mr. Hoffman of Waterlon lives with his daughters. Mrs. Truman Snyder and Mim Laura Hoffman, 125 William St. Mr. Hoffman of Preston lives with his daughter, Mrs. Oscar Bachs, Dover St Mr. Hoffman of Waterloo spent his first birthday in bed Wednesday. Mr. Hoffman of Preston has been confined to bed for a few years. Preston's Conrad Hoffman operated a farm near Amulree, Waterloo County, until returning to Preston 21 years ago. He has lived in Preston since that time. His wife predeceased him Sept. 20, 1941. They had enjoyed 68 years of married life. Eight of ten children are living. They are Mrs. Sachs. Mrs. Harry Graham, Philip and Charles Hoffman, all of Preston, George of North Easthope, Arthur of Detroit, Mrs. Jacob Seip of Kitchener and Mrs. E. Knowlton of Hamilton. Waterloo's Mr. Hoffman has lived in Waterloo for 78 years. His wife died 20 years ago. Married in 1872, they had enjoyed 52 years of wedded life. The Kitchener Record Sat, Sep 09, 1944 Page 2 ________ Conrad Hoffman Dies at Preston By Record Correspondent PRESTON. Sept. 18. Conrad Hoffman, believed to be Preston's oldest citizen, died at 3:45 Sunday afternoon at the home of his son-in- law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Sachs, Dover St., Preston. In his 90th year, the deceased had been critically ill since Wednesday of last week and had been ailing for the past two years. Born in Germany, the late Mr. Hoffman came to this country at the age of seven, and before coming to Preston lived in Amulree, Perth County, where he worked as a car- penter. He had lived retired in Preston for the past 24 years, making his home with his son-in-law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Sachs, for the past year and a half. His wife, Ann Elizabeth Robitch. died in September, 1941. The late Mr. Hoffman, who observed his 95th birthday this month, was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Preston. Surviving are four daugters, Mrs. Harry Graham and Mrs. Oscar Sachs, Preston; Mrs. Jacob Seip. Waterloo, and Mrs. Evan Knowlton. Hamilton; four sons, Philip of Preston, George of North Easthope, Arthur of Detroit and Carl of Blair. A daughter, Mrs. William Bennington, of Detroit, died in 1930, and a son, Henry of New Hamburg. died three years ago. Fifteen grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren also survive. The late Mr. Hoffman is resting at the Stager-Pass Ltd., Funeral Home from where the funeral will be held on Wednesday at 2:30. Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery.
