Notes - ROBERT AITKEN, farmer, Glenmorris P.O., was one of the first of the army of pioneers, and settled in Dumfries township. He was born in Roxburghshire, Scotland, and was the son of George and Esther Aitken, who both died in Scotland at an advanced age. Robert Aitken was married on June 7th, 1827, to Elizabeth Little, daughter of Andrew and Agnes Little, Roxburghshire, Scotland. She was born January 30th, 1805, and after an active life, passed away on the 4th of march, 1879. Mr. Aitken is a member of the Presbyterian Church. The first land he bought is the farm on which he is now located, a well improved farm of 108 acres. He is the father of ten children, eight of whom are still living; their names according to seniority, are Cecilia, Agnes, Esther, Janet, Mina, John, Mary, George and Jane. Esther was married, 28th October, 1853, to John Miller; Mina, was married 26th November, 1857, to William Richardson, and is now living in Campbell Township, Ionia Co., Michigan. The great bulk of the land in the immediate vicinity of where Mr. Aitken's farm now is, prior to his settling here, was owned by one Wm. Dickson, of Galt.
