      Kitchener - Large numbers of Twin City and district residents paid their last respects to Conrad Zick, prominent Kitchener resident at the funeral held late last week from the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. O. Ritz, Heins Ave.

      Mr. Zick, who was in his 90th year, was born near St. Clements on September 15, 1851, but has resided in the Twin City most of his life. He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran church, Waterloo, and also the Canadian Order of Foresters.

      Predeceased by his wife in November, 1938, and one son William in 1936. Mr. Zick is survived by three sons, Edmond, Buffalo, N.Y., Homer, Dundas and Norman, Los Angeles, one sister, Mrs. Christian Paul, Ann Arbor, Mich;, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

      Mr. and Mrs. C. Zick, Bride and Groom of 60 Years, Active and Happy.

      ESTEEMED COUPLE IN BEST OF HEALTH

      Sixty years ago, Conrad and Mary Zick drove through three to four feet of snow to spend their honeymoon at the old homestead in Wellesley township.

      Times have changed a lot since then, they say, but at their diamond wedding anniversary on Monday, January 29th, they were prepared for just as happy a celebration as they were the day an old German hymn was sung to mark their nuptials.

      Enjoyable Family Gathering.

      A happy feature of the anniversary, to which Mr. and Mrs. Zick looked forward, was a reunion of their five children, held at the home of their only daughter, Bertha, Mrs. Emil O. Ritz, Heins Avenue, Kitchener. It was a most enjoyable dinner party held on Sunday, to mark this unique and interesting event. The youngest son, Norman, is clerk and treasurer of Waterloo. Friends and relatives congregated at the home to felicitate the highly esteemed Twin-City couple upon their long and happy married life.

      Conrad Zick is 88; his wife, who was Mary Fitzmeyer, of Freedom, Mich., is 80. They were married at her home, January 29, 1874. Except for a two-year stay in Michigan, Mr. Zick has resided all his life in Waterloo county.

      "My father and mother were born in Germany," Mr. Zick told the Chronicle. "They settled on a farm in Wellesley township. Of our family, only myself and a brother and sister in Michigan are still living. I went to Michigan to work and made big money for those times. A farmer paid me $25 a month the year round. But I didn't like the farm. From boyhood I wanted to work with wood. So we came back to Waterloo after our marriage."

      Mr. and Mrs. Zick resided at Waterloo until thirteen years ago when they moved to Kitchener to reside with Mrs. Ritz. He retired five years ago but they are both still active. He tinkers with wood at an improvised bench and feeds a pair of handsome love birds. She knits, bakes and avidly follows current. events in the newspapers

      "We have taken life as it came - we knew we couldn't change it," Mr. Zick said when asked the secret of their youthful attitude towards life. "There was a day when we had to live on seven shillings a day and frequently we couldn't get our wages. This is not our first depression.

      Their children are William P. of Detroit, Edmund H. of Buffalo, Homer of Dundas, Norman of Waterloo and Mrs. Bertha Ritz, of Kitchener. There are seven grand- children and two great grand.
