    • Bowman.-Alva Schantz Bowman was born near Mannheim, in Waterloo County, Ont., Feb. 23, 1879; died of a heart attack while working in his farmyard, Oct. 7, 1946; aged 67 y. 7 m. 14 d. In his youth he accepted Christ and was faithful to Him to the end. He was married to Angeline Knechtel. One son (William) preceded him in death in June. Surviving are 4 sons and 3 daughters: Eldon, Waterloo, Ont.; Alfred, Fred, Clayton, Mabel-Mrs. Dave Deckert, Bertha-Mrs. Elmer Snider, Florence-Mrs. Earl Gingerich, all of Guernsey, Sask. In 1905 he moved to Saskatchewan, where he resided until his death. He was prominent in the community and church, having served as vice-chairman of the Canadian Mennonite Board of Colonization since 1929. He was much concerned about the hungry in Europe, and in 1945 and 1946 he and Dan Schlabach canvassed the district to raise funds to feed the starving. Funeral services were held at the Sharon Church, Guernsey, Oct. 11, in charge of Dan Schlabach and Stanley Shantz, assisted by Jacob Dyck (in German), and J. J. Thiessen, chairman of the Colonization Board. Scriptures used: Ps. 90: 9, 10; I Thess. 5: 1, 2, 4-6; I Pet. 1: 3-5; II Cor. 1-3, 4; Ps. 116: 15. Interment was made in the Sharon Mennonite Cemetery.
