  Mrs. John B. O. Schmidt An esteemed and beloved resident of Baden passed away at her home in Baden last Thursday, March 19th, in the person of Mrs. John B. O. Schmidt, aged 80 years. She had been in failing health for several years. The late Mrs. Schmidt, whose maiden name was Catharine Miller, was born at Baden and spent her whole life in that community. For the past twenty years she resided on the farm birthplace of the late Sir Adam Beck. The deceased was a devout adherent of the Amish-Mennonite faith and through her kindly and charitable disposition made a wide circle of friends who regret her passing. She was married at Baden on March 13, 1883, to John B. O. Schmidt, who predeceased her in June, 1940. She leaves in bereavement three sons, Samuel, on a farm west of Baden, Noah and Aaron, Baden, three daughters, Mrs. Moses Steinman, Baden, Lydia, at home, and Elmina, Kitchener, besides one brother, Christian Miller, St. Petersburg, Florida, and one sister, Mrs. David Roth, Baden. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon from her late home to Steinman's A.-M. Church for service, followed by interment in the Steinman Cemetery. A very large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends assembled to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Peter Nafziger of St. Agatha, assisted by Elder Elmer Schwartzentruber. New Hamburg Independent, March 27, 1942
