    • The report of the death of Valentine Schaefer last Friday afternoon was received with deep regret by the whole community, as only two days previous he was about town in the best of health. On Thursday he took suddenly ill and on Friday afternoon passed peacefully away in his 71st year. Deceased was born in Hessia, Germany, and came to Canada in 1853, settling in the township of Woolwich. He was married twice. The first marriage was blessed with 10 children, four of whom preceded him in death. In January 1874 he was married to Mary Grube and this union was blessed with 13 children, 6 sons and 7 daughters, who with the widow survive to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father. His remains were laid to rest in the village cemetery on Wednesday afternoon and the funeral was attended by a large circle of friends. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Meyers, who preached an impressive sermon in the Baptist church, of which congregation deceased had been a devoted member. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the family in their bereavement.

      Messrs. Samuel and Andrew Axt have received the sad news of the death of their friend. Valentine Schafer, at New Hamburg, who died March 8th, aged 71. The funeral takes place on Wednesday afternoon.
