    • Mrs. Matilda Handstein, a former resident of New Hamburg, passed away at the Windsor General Hospital on Sunday at the age of 88 years, following a lengthy illness. She was the widow of the late John Handstein, and for the past two years had made her home in Windsor with her daughter, Mrs. Ira Deline. The late Mrs. Handstein was the former Matilda Ross, and was born in Baden on October 18, 1866, a daughter of the late Mr. And Mrs. Jacob Ross. She had been a resident of New Hamburg for forty-five years, and previously had resided in Philipsburg district.

      Her husband died on March 7, 1951, and one son and one daughter also predeceased her. While residing in New Hamburg, she was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.

      She is survived by two sons, Nelson and Louis of Detroit, and four daughters, Mrs. Fred (Minnie) Watts, Toronto; Mrs. Herbert (Hannah) Mercer, Toronto; Mrs. Jos. (Edna) Connolly of Windsor, and Mrs. Ira (Ella) Deline, Windsor.

      The remains were brought to New Hamburg and rested at the Futher-Omand Funeral Home until Wednesday noon when removal was made to St. Peter's Church, where a memorial service was held at 2: 00 p.m.

      Interment followed in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Philipsburg. Rev. Milton Hafner, pastor of St. Peter's Church was in charge of the services.
