After months of suffering, death, last Sunday, relieved Mrs. Jacob Dunke, a well-known and highly respected lady, whose demise almost in middle age, has cast a gloom over a large circle of friends and acquaintances. Deceased was a daughter of Mr. Lemuel Powell, of Wallenstein, and in the year 1877 was married ot Mrs. Jacob Dunke, then a prosperous young merchant of Elmira. Her gentle and ladylike deportment won for her many friends in the village, who will miss her greatly. Although for several years a sufferer of rheumatic and heart disease, she was until recently able to be about a large portion of the time. Everything that love and forethought could do, was done for her, but during the past summer she became rapidly worse, and a loving husband and three daughters were obliged to see her waste gradually away until death claimed her for a victim, robbing them of their dearest on earth - wife and mother. The bereaved family, have the sympathy of the entire community in their great loss.

If there is one class of human beings that affords the writer pleasure to mention in the general write-up of a community it is its industrious business women and hence it would have been a considerable source of regret to him to have neglected to call attention to the above well known firm in this voluminous collection of Elmira's business interests. The Misses Powell opened their dressmaking, millinery and fancy goods emporium about eight years ago and by strict attention to business and turning out first class work and doing it promptly they have earned an enviable reputation. Being reliable and long established they can count among their patrons the best class of citizens of the town and surrounding country. In the dressmaking department they are prepared to turn out garment's made from the cheapest or most costly fabrics and in the latest fashions. In the millinery line they are prepared to produce the most fashionable and becoming bonnets, hats, etc, in the latest New York and Paris designs if desired while they do not turn out inferior work their charges are, nevertheless, always reasonable.

FORRESTER, Erma E (Dunke)

Mrs. Andrew W. Forrester, the former Erma E. Dunke, died suddenly at her residence, 680 Main St., East, on Friday morning. Mrs. Forrester had been a resident of Hamilton since 1910 and was a member of St. Giles United Church. She was a member also of the Alma Daughters, Alma Ladies College, St. Thomas. Her husband died in 1937 and she is survived by one sister, Mrs. George Ziegler (Viola) of Parry Sound and three nieces. The body will be at the family residence until Monday morning. Funeral service will be held in the drawing room of the Brown Brothers Funeral home on Monday afternoon at 1: 30 o'clock with burial in Union Cemetery, Elmira.

MRS. J. REDGELY BELL

Elmira friends have received word that Mrs. J. Redgely Bell, nee Alva Ethel Dunke, passed away in Edmonton, Alberta, after a lingering illness. Deceased was the second daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Dunke. She was born in Elmira and received her early education in Elmira school, later she attended Alma College, St. Thomas. She was a general favorite, as her bright and cheerful disposition endeared her to all who knew her. She was an active member and organist in Wesley Methodist Church.

On Feb. 18, 1909, she was united in marriage to Mr. John Redgely Bell, leaving the same day for their future home in Lloydminster, Sask., where they resided for some time, later moving to Edmonton, Alta., where she remained until her death.

Surviving are her husband and daughter, also two sisters, Mrs. Andrew Forrester, (Erna) of Hamilton, and Mrs. George L. Ziegler, (Viola) of Parry Sound. The funeral will be held from Dreisinger's Funeral Chapel, Elmira, on Friday, Oct. 11, at 1.30 p.m. Interment will be made in Elmira Union Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Martin of St. Giles church, Hamilton and Rev. J. S. Wright of Elmira, will officiate.

Hawkesville - It is our sad duty to chronicle the death of Hugh Powell, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. H. McCulloch, last Friday Feb. 24th. The funeral was held on Sunday at their residence Rev. J. The funeral of Andrew Dunke Forester, who died at his home, 680 Main St., Hamilton, was held at the residence in Hamilton Wednesday at 1:30. Interment will be made in the Elmira Cemetery. Mr. Dunke Forester was a son of Mrs. Irma Forester, the former Irma Dunke of Elmira, and the late Andrew Forester. He is survived by his mother. His wife, the former, Dorothy Brendoltz of Hamilton, predeceased him.

Cottage Fire Takes Life of Former Local Woman:

Mrs. L. Clement the former Janet Wakefield Zielger, lost her life in a fire that completely destroyed her summer home at Sand Bay. The fire which occurred sometime after midnight in the early morning hours of July 19^th was so far advanced when the neighbours were aroused that they were unable to render assistance. Mrs. Clement was alone in the cottage. The fire is still under investigation by Ontario Provincial Police. Constable Baronoski, Inspector Lyle of G.H.Q., Toronto and Mr. N. Sweet of the Fire Marshall's Office. Daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. G.L. Ziegler, Parry Sound, she if survived by husband, Leonard Clement of Cooksville, two sons Donald of Peterborough and Byrne of Oakville, a sister, Maxine (Mrs. V. St. Amand) and two grandchildren. Services were held on Tuesday, July 23^rd, at Oakville. Interment in Victoria Lawn Cemetery, St. Catherines.
