On Oct. 3, 1882, he was united in matrimony to Katie Leis who died March 24, 1932. To this union were born 2 sons and 3 daughters, of whom Katie (Mrs. Joel Wagler), and Fanny survive; 3 brothers and 4 sisters also survive him (Menno, David, and Moses, and Fanny (Mrs. Nic Jantzi), Nancy (Mrs. Dan Schmidt), Barbara (Mrs. J. GASCHO. - Catherine Lichti was born in Wellesley, Ont., Mar. 21, 1864; died at her home near Kingwood, Ont., Jan. 22, 1930; aged 65 y. 10 m. 1 d. On Mar. 4, 1890, she was united in marriage to John Gascho. To this union were born 6 children, one of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, 4 sons, 1 daughter, 10 grandchildren, 4 sisters, 4 brothers, and many other relatives and friends. In her early youth she accepted Christ as her Savior, united with the A. M. Church, and remained faithful to the end. She had been in failing health for some time, but her death came as a shock to her family as she passed away in her sleep. Funeral services were held Jan. 24 at the home and at the Cedar Grove A. M. Church by Bros. John Gerber and Jacob Lichti.

LICHTI, Menno J. 1961

Menno J. Lichti, 95, died on Thursday, May 4^th, at the house of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Kuepfer, of Millbank. He was the son of the late Joseph Lichti and Catherine Jantzi, and was born in Wellesley Township, on September 30, 1865. He had farmed in the Wellesley and Mornington district and was of the Amish Mennonite faith. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Jacob Kuepfer, of Millbank; two grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. His wife, the former, Elizabeth Jantzi, whom he married on June 8, 1890, died on November 4^th, 1949. Four brothers, Chris, David, Rudy and Mose and five sisters, Mrs. Nicholas (Fannie) Jantzi, Mrs. John (Catherine) Gascho, Mrs. Dan (Nancy) Schmidt, Mrs. Jacob (Barbara) Erb, and Mrs. Solomon (Mary) Leis, also predeceased him. The body rested at the Futher funeral home, Wellesley, until Friday when removal was made to the home of his son-in-law and daughter, at Millbank, where a funeral service was conducted on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. by Bishop Amos Albrecht. Burial was made in the seventh line Amish Mennonite cemetery.

David L. Gascho, 75, died Saturday following a brief illness in the Brunner Rest Home at Brunner.

He was a son of the late John Gascho and Catherine Lichty.

Surviving are his wife, the former Louise Brunk; a brother John L. Gascho and a sister, Mrs. Noah Jantzi, both of Wellesley; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers.

The body rested at the Heubner Funeral Home in Milverton until noon Tuesday when removal was made to Riverdale Mennonite Church at Millbank for funeral service at 2: 30 p.m. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Lichty.- Solomon, son of Rudolph and Rachael (Schrag) Lichty, was born in Wellesley Twp., Ont., May 23, 1900; died at Stratford General Hospital, Sept. 30, 1977; aged 77 y. On Dec. 8, 1921, he was married to Emma Jantzi, who survives. Lichti-Samuel S., son of the late David and Barbara (Schultz) Lichti, was born near Wellesley, Ont., May 13, 1895; died April 1, 1937; aged 41 y. 10 m. 18 d. He lived all his life on the farm where he was born. At the age of 16 he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and united with the Amish Mennonite Church, remaining faithful until death. He was afflicted with a rheumatic heart, his end coming suddenly while sitting in a chair. His father also passed away very unexpectedly last November. On Jan. 17, 1923, he was united in holy matrimony with Sister Lucinda Jantzi of Twining, Mich. To this union were born 5 children, 2 having preceded him in infancy. Surviving are his aged mother, his sorrowing companion, 1 son (Orval), 2 daughters (Elsie and Esther), 2 sisters (Mrs. Mahlon Schultz and Mrs. Irvin Zehr, both of Milverton, Ont.). Funeral services were held April 4 at Maple View Church, in charge of Peter Nafziger, Daniel Lebold and Moses 0. Jantzi. Burial in adjoining cemetery.

Her father, 2 brothers, and 1 sister preceded her in death. Funeral services were conducted April 9 at her late home in charge of Bro., Amos Brunk, with further services at the Wellesley Maple View A. M. Church in charge of Bro. C. R. Brunk in German, and Bro. Peter Nafziger in English. Text, II Cor. 4: 17. Interment in the adjoining cemetery.

Erb.-Emma, beloved daughter of Bro. and Sister Jacob S. Erb, in the vicinity of Wellesley, Ont., was born Oct. 16, 1914; died Aug. 31, 1938; aged 23 y. 10 m. 15 d. Surviving are her parents, 2 sisters and 3 brothers (David, Samuel, Mrs. Clayton Steinman, all near Wellesley; Mary and John at home). One sister Katie died in early infancy. After a few weeks' illness, due to conditions of the heart, having been in unfavorable heath for past number of years, with suffering she peacefully left us. Church near Wellesley, of which she was a member, with burial in adjoining cemetery.

WELLESLEY, Sept. 1-Following a lengthy, illness, Emma Erb, 23, died yesterday at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Erb on the 3rd line of Wellesley. She was born in Wellesley township on Oct 16, 1914 and attended Maple church. View Amish-Mennonite.

Besides her, parents she is survived by three brothers, David and Sam L. of Wellesley and John at home, two sisters, Mrs. Clayton Steinman of Wellesley and Mary at home.

The funeral will be held at 1.30 o'clock Saturday afternoon with public services at her late residence thence to Maple View Amish- Menninite church on the 3rd line of Wellesley. Interment will be made in the adjoining cemetery Rev. Danjel Lebold will officiate.

Leonard was a member of Fellowship Haven Amish Mennonite Church, Monkton. He was ordained on May 17, 1970 to the ministry and served in the Mornington, Fairhaven and Fellowship Haven Amish Mennonite Congregations. Beloved husband of Mary Jane (Kuepfer) Jantzi who he married January 3, 1952. Rev. Lorne George Lichty, 87, of Greencastle, died Sunday morning, January 13, 2013, at his residence. He was the husband of Mrs. Evelyn R. Dohner Lichty, his wife of 9 years. Born June 3, 1925, near Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, he was a son of the late Solomon and Emma Jantzi Lichti. Rev. Lichty graduated from Toronto Bible College, and was ordained to the ministry in 1955. He was a bivocational pastor serving in the Brethren In Christ Church and as a licensed auctioneer for 55 years. Not only did he pastor locally at Montgomery Brethren In Christ Church, Mercersburg, but over his career at Belleville, Green Springs, and Clear Creek Brethren In Christ Churches, and Bedford Chapel, all of Pennsylvania, as well as his first pastorate at North Star Mission and two additional churches in Saskatchewan, Canada. Besides his wife, Rev. Lichty is survived by four children, Gloria Barbara Ann and husband Adrian of Biggar, Saskatchewan, Canada, Charlotte Lucille Reid and husband Rev. Kenneth Reid of Orrtanna, Marlene Yvonne Wenger and husband Larson of Greencastle, and Rev. L. Douglas Lichty and wife Kathy of St. Thomas; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and a step great grandchild; as well as a brother, Lloyd Lichti and wife Mary Lou of Stratford, Ontario, Canada, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of fifty-six years, Jeanne E. Snyder Lichty, who died in 2003; and four brothers and a sister. Vernon Erb hands over the president's mantle to son Wendell


NEW HAMBURG - When he started out with one truck, 52 years ago, Vernon Erb dreamed that one day he might have a small, modest fleet. Maybe five or six trucks.

Today, the Erb name crosses an entire continent. It is on hundreds of trucks and refrigerated trailers hauling food and goods to grocery stories and retailers throughout North America.

Honest, hard work and concern for customers and employees built the business, says Vernon's eldest son Wendell, who was recently named president of the Erb Group of Companies after Vernon relinquished the title.

Vernon, now 75, has been winding down his involvement in the day-to-day operations of the Erb Group since 1999, when Wendell became general manager. Handing over the presidential title now marks a more "official" retirement, although Vernon is still chair of the board for Erb Enterprises.

But retirement doesn't really mean retirement for Vernon. "He bought a farm and he is actually farming 220 acres now," Wendell says. "He still comes into the garage, but mostly to borrow tools or a mechanic."

Decency, honest hard work and caring were Vernon's trademarks. "My father knew probably everything about every customer, every employee," Wendell says. "He returned every phone call and lived and breathed the company."

The company now employs about 1,300 people, has 850 delivery trucks and power units that pull trailers, as well as 1,100 trailers and 10 refrigeration facilities between Winnipeg and Montreal.

Vernon took a huge risk but made the right move when he competed against bigger players to get the unrestricted licence he needed in 1970 to be able to carry frozen foods up and down the highways.

The deregulation of the trucking industry, starting in 1980 in the United States, further fuelled the growth of the business, Wendell says. "That allowed us to get the operating authority to truck anywhere in the United States."

Trucking is now a high-tech business, he says. "It is amazing, the information that goes back and forth via satellite."

There are many challenges ahead in the transportation industry, including trying to get reliable equipment that meets the emission standards of today, as well as trying to find enough drivers to replace the ones that are retiring.

"Our driving workforce in general is aging and we are not seeing the people come into the industry as fast as they are retiring," he adds.

But Wendell says the Erb Group has been lucky to have great employees who stayed with the company over the years.

"The loyalty of our drivers and all of our employees is something that we have been blessed with." But he says the business' success is ultimately driven by taking care of customers. That was the main lesson his father passed down.

"What he did was good old fashioned hard work and he took care of the customers. He never failed to remind us that we have to take care of them, and that was our recipe for success."

FOLEY-MCGREGOR, Marie - Mrs. L. Marie Foley-McGregor, age 84, of Stratford, passed away peacefully at Stratford General Hospital, on Saturday, May 17, 2008. She was born in Wilmot Township, daughter of the late Allan and Mary Leis. Loving mother of Dennis Foley (Marilyn), Shakespeare. Devoted Nana of Steven Foley (Heather), Milverton, Shawn Foley (Sharon), Orr Lake, Stuart Foley (Kristin), London and to her five great-grandchildren, Seleena, Thomas, Cassie, Samantha and Maxwell. Also survived by six step-children, Dorothy Norris (Bill), Evelyn Lee (Les), Grace Holtz, Barbara Hartung, Donalda Horst, Donald Foley (Audrey) and their families. Several brothers and sisters and their families also survive. Marie was predeceased by her first husband, Thomas A. Foley (1979); by her second husband, Alastair MacGregor (1984) and by a step-son, Thomas H. Foley. Marie had worked at Sparr Plant producing parts for Mosquito Bombers during the Second World War, Federal Rubber and later Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Stratford and past member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Tavistock Legion. Marie volunteered with the House of Blessing, loved to quilt and cook and enjoyed baby sitting the neighbourhood kids for many years. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home , 430 Huron St. Stratford on Tuesday, May 20, (today) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Stratford on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Rev. Timothy Teuscher will officiate. Interment in Avondale Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society through the funeral home. A special thank you to Marie's neighbours Larry and Colleen Brickman, Pat and Sally Lynch, Bonnie and the late Andy Anderson, Dave and Ruby Singer, Doug and Ann Gilchrist, Francis and Sharon Maloney who she considered her extended family.

Percy Kropf, 84, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at A.R. Goudie Retirement Home. Loving father of Rick (Beryl) and Jeff (Della). Beloved "Gramps" to Chad, Ian, Jason and Tyler Kropf and "Great Gramps" to his many great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Gary. Percy was a member of a large family with many brothers and sisters. He played Santa Claus for over 30 years for family and friends and enjoyed his summers at the Sauble cottage. After retirement he enjoyed playing golf at his home in Florida. The family would like to thank the staff at A.R. Goudie Retirement Home for their excellent care. Cremation entrusted to Ontario Cremation Services , 28A-1601 River Rd., Kitchener.
