CROSSHILL, May 20. Christian A. Kennel, passed away last evening at his home, one mile south of Crosshill, after an illness of one month, at the age of 71. He was married to Barbara Schragg 50 years ago, the two celebrating their anniversary last September.

Surviving, are his widow, one son, Dan of Victoriaburg, six daughters, Mrs. Sam Lehman, Castor Land, N. Y., Mrs. John Jutzi, Victoriaburg. Mrs. Emanuel Steinman, New Hamburg, Mrs. Sam Erb, Crosshill, Mrs. Irvin Ropt, Detroit, and Mattie at home, one brother, Joseph Kennel, Wellesley, three sisters, Mrs. John Lehman, Groghon, N. Y., Mrs. Peter Yousei, Croghon, N. Y., Mrs. John Bast, Windsor, and 22 grandchildren.
The funeral will be held from his late residence on Sunday to Maple View Amish church, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Mrs. Magdalene Kennel Lehman, 68, widow of John Lehman and a resident of this village for the past 35 years died at her home on Main street at 5: 30 Monday morning following a week's illness. She suffered a stroke a week ago. She was born in Wellesley, Ont. Canada, on August 2, 1871, a daughter of Christiana A. and Magdalene Albright Kennel Her early life was spent in Canada and 50 years ago she was married to John Lehman in Welesley. The couple came to this country in 1905, settling in Lewis County. In 1906 Mr. Lehman purchased the sawmill business of Joseph F. Farney which he operated until his death in July, 1925. The business is now operated by his son-in-law, Benjamin F Zehr. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Benjamin F. (Sussana) Zehr, three grandchildren, the Misses Kathlene L. and Charlotte Zehr, and Mark J. Zehr all of this village; two sisters, Mrs. Susan Yousey, who has resided with Mrs. Lehman for the past five years, and Mrs. Barbara Bast, Wellesley, Ont Prayer services were held at the family home Thursday at noon (E. S.T.) and from the Amish Mennonite church at 1 p. m. Burial will be made in the church cemetery in this village.

Grandma united with the Mennonite Church at the age of 16 and was a faithful member until death. She and her aged husband lived together for many years, having celebrated their golden anniversary almost 9 years ago. Her sudden death, which came with but little warning perhaps will exaggerate the loneliness which her husband will experience, but as Christians we can always be comforted with the presence of the Lord. In Christ we have the promise and the hope of being at home in joy and peace. Funeral services were held at the home by Pre. Frank Raber and at the Pigeon River Church by Bros. Edwin Albrecht and Emanuel Swartzendruber. Interment in the adjoining cemetery.

In 1909 he was united in marriage to Mattie Ulrich, who preceded him in death may 16, 1926. To this union were born 5 children (twin daughters, Viola-Mrs. Christ Bontrager; and Violetta-Mrs. Samuel Schrock; John, all of Akron, N. Y.; Sidney, Lockport, N. Y.; and Mary -Mrs. Norman Eick, Akron, N.Y.), all of whom survive. He was married to Rachel Peebles June 23, 1929, who survives. Also surviving are 2 stepsons (Elmer and Daniel Peebles), 1 brother (Joseph), 2 sisters (Sarah and Leah), and 13 grandchildren. In his youth he united with the Mennonite Church in which he was a faithful member until death. Funeral services were held May 20, at the Clarence Center Mennonite Church in charge of Edward Diener and Jacob Birky. Interment was made in the Good Cemetery.

A retired farmer from Mornington Township, Joseph S. Albrecht, 88, died Sunday at the home of his son Henry at R.R. 1 Millbank. He had been ill for five months. Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Albrecht, he was born January 12, 1868, in Wilmot Township. He was a member of the Amish Mennonite faith.

His wife, the former Magdalena Zehr, predeceased him in 1936. He is survived by five sons, Noah, Henry, Amos and Eli, all of Millbank, and Joseph of Linwood; one daughter, Mrs. Elan (Lydia) Horst of Newton; one brother, Daniel of Newton; two sisters, Mrs. Christian (Barbara) Herrfort of Newton and Mrs. Alfred (Christina) Bell of Kitchener; 32 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Two sisters and four brothers predeceased him.

Word has been received here of the death of Nancy Bast, beloved wife of Mr. Michael Erb, of Alden, N. Y. The deceased was about 36 years of age and passed away at the Buffalo General Hospital. ERB.--Nancy Bast Erb was born in Wellesley, Ont., in 1884; died at the Buffalo General Hospital Nov. 17, 1930. She was sick about 3 weeks, suffering from gallstones and yellow jaundice. She was taken to the hospital on the evening of Nov. 15, where she was to be operated on. When she arrived at the hospital the doctor pronounced her case hopeless. She lingered until the morning of Nov. 17 when she peacefully passed away. She leaves her husband, 5 sons, 3 daughters. She was a member of the Conservative Mennonite Church from which faith she never departed. Funeral services were held at the Alden Mennonite Church by Bros. John Bontrager and John Helmuth. Burial at County Line Cemetery.

Daniel Kennel, 61 years, of 97 Cameron St. North, died at his residence last night following a lengthy illness. Born in Wellesley Township, June 11, 1891, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Kennel. Mr. Kennel was a member of the First Mennonite Church, Kitchener. He is survived by his wife, the former Adeline Ropp, who he married March 1920, in Emily City, Mich.; one daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Eunice) Lichty of Kitchener; six sisters, Miss Mattie Kennel and Mrs. Samuel Lehman of Castorland, N.Y., Mrs. John Jutzi of Kitchener, Mrs. Emmanuel Steinman of New Hamburg, Mrs. Minetta Erb of Millbank and Mrs. Ervin Ropp of Port Austin, Mich. J. Kennel Rites Held In Arizona

CROGHAN - The funeral for Jonas Kennel, former resident of Croghan, who died Jan. 26 in Phoenix, Ariz., was held Jan. 29 in Phoenix. Burial was in East Resthaven Park Cemetery, Phoenix. Born in Wellesley, Ont., 1889, son of Joseph and Anna Kennel, he married Marian Farney, daughter of the late David and Rebecca Farney, Croghan, 47 years ago. They operated a farm on the Croghan-Belfort road until they moved to Arizona. Mr. Kennel was also employed as night watchman at Beaverite, Inc., Beaver Falls. Besides his widow, he is survived by four sons, Richard, Evans Mills, David and Daniel, both of Phoenix, Joseph, Copenhagen; four daughters, Mrs. Urban (Anita) Peachy, Mrs. Bruce (Mary Carol) Isles, Mrs. Mark (Dorothy)Griffin, all of Phoenex; two brothers, Azor, Sarasota, Fla., and Al, of Canada; 34 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

WELLESLEY-Mrs. Joseph Miller, 28 Queen St. E., died Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital in Kitchener after a lengthy illness. She was 88.
Born in Wellesley [birth record says Wilmot] Jan. 16, 1883, she was the former Annie Albrecht, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Albrecht. She was a member of the Maple View Mennonite Church.

She was predeceased by her husband in February, 1954, one daughter, one brother and four sisters.

Surviving are three sons, Herbert of Sarasota, Fla., Clarence of Baden and Lincoln of Wellesley; one daughter, Mrs. Aaron (Marian) Boshart of Wellesley; two sisters, Mrs. Jacob (Katie) Jantzi and Lavina Albrecht, both of Wellesley; 13 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren.
The body will be at the Futher Brothers Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Tuesday until noon Thursday when removal will be made to the church for a service at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

MRS. JACOB JANTZI

Mrs. Jacob Jantzi, 78, of Wellesley died Thursday, December 9 at the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital. The former Katie Albrecht , she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Albrecht. She was a member of Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church, Wellesley. Her husband Jacob died in 1949.

She is survived by one son, Alvin of Wellesley, one daughter, Susanah Wilhelm, of Kitchener, one sister, Elvine Albrecht, of Wellesley, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The body rested at the Futher Brothers Funeral Home , Wellesley where a family service was held Monday at 1: 15 p.m. The service was followed by a memorial service at the Cedar Grove Mennonite Church at 2 p.m. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

NEW DUNDEE-Mrs. Edwin S. Roth, 66, of RR 1, New Dundee, died today following a lengthy illness. The former Elizabeth Albrecht, she was born in Wilmot Township, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Albrecht.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Harold (Eileen) Becker of RR 1, New Dundee; three sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Anne) Miller, Mrs. Jacob W. (Katie) Jantzi and Levina, all of Wellesley, and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother and two sisters.

The body will be at the Bruce J. Omand Funeral Home, New Hamburg, until noon Monday. A service will be held at the Mennonite Church, East Zorra, at 2 p.m. Rev. Daniel Wagler will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Donations to the Ontario Heart Foundation will be accepted as expressions of sympathy.

Ropp.--Edwin, son of Joseph and Barbara Ropp, was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., Feb. 9, 1900; died very suddenly at his home near Pigeon, Mich., June 19, 1913; aged 13 y. 4 m. 10 d. He had been bothered with his heart for some time, but was feeling well and had been helping his father all day; but about 8 o'clock in the evening, after he had his supper ate, he dropped dead almost instantly. His death came as a shock to the family and community. We cannot realize why such young souls in the bloom of life are snatched away, but the all-wise God knows what is best. "His will be done." He is survived by his sorrowing parents, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, and many relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 22, at the Pigeon River Church by Bros. S. J. Swartzendruber and D. J. Shetler (texts, Matt. 24: 42-44; Jas. 4: 13-17) in the German language, and Bro. Peter Ropp of the Berne Church in the English language. Text, Gal. 6: 7-9. Interment in cemetery nearby.

Marion Lahey of Abbotsford, B.C., Harvey and his wife Fannie Kuepfer of Monkton. Sadly missed by 11 grand- children and 12 great-grandchildren. Also survived by her brother Edward and his wife Sarah Albrecht of RR 3, Monkton.

Lavina was predeceased by children, Emmanuel and Edith, both in infancy and a sister, Lena Robb.

Family and friends may call at Lavina's former residence, 4041 Norfolk Street, Millbank after 7 p.m. to- night (Thursday) and again on Friday. The funeral service will held at the residence on Saturday, June 7, 2003 at 1 p.m. Bishop Menno Streicher to of ficiate. Interment in the 7th Line Amish Cemetery, Wellesley township.
