    PTE. EDWARD ZIEGLER

    Pte. Edward Harry Ziegler, 19 - year-old son of Mrs. Eliza Ziegler, 123 Albert St., Waterloo, has become seriously ill as a result of wounds received in action on March 1. The wounds were caused by a bullet penetrating the left thigh and leg.. Pte. Ziegler went to Holland from England, having arrived overseas at the end of September, 1944. As far as his mother knows, he was serving in that country when he was wounded.

    Previously employed at the Globe Furniture, he enlisted last spring. He was born and educated in Waterloo.

    ZIEGLER, Arthur Edward - In his 93rd year, passed away, peacefully, at Columbia Forest Long Term Care Facility, on August 11, 2008. Much loved Dad to Harold, Dorothy, Art Jr. (Chris), Arlene (Robin), Paul (Lynda), Sharon (Bob), Helen (Keith), Delton (Jayne), Marilyn (Vernon), Rae and Floyd (Patti). Father-in-law to Sheila and Ruby Ziegler and special friend to Erna Borch. Proud grandfather to 23 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Brother-in-law to Betty, Verna and Norma Ziegler, Leona Snyder and Caroline and Eileen Becker. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Pearl (1989); children, Ruth and Esther in infancy, Bruce (1998), Roy (2006); granddaughter, Kristin (2001) and son-in-law, Herbert Schiel (2005); sisters, Helen, Mabel Myrtle and brothers, Gordon, Herbert, Lloyd and Addison. Art was born on April 16, 1916 (a special birthday gift to his mother) and was the last surviving member of the children of Amelia and Aaron Ziegler. He lived a long, healthy life to which his family is extremely grateful. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Columbia Forest Long Term Care Facility for the wonderful care that they provided to Dad during the last 6 years, with very special thanks especially to Danuta for her professionalism, personal care, intuition and compassion, to Wendy (Dad's wishful travel companion), Gwen for her daily hug and kiss to Dad and Iris for her compassionate care of Dad. Thanks also to Jack Liddle and Pastors Nancy and Liz from St. Mark's Lutheran Church for attending to the spiritual needs of our Father. The family will receive friends at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. West, Kitchener this evening (Tuesday) from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Service will be held from the chapel on Thursday at 11 a.m. Interment at Parkview Cemetery (Waterloo). Following the interment, a reception will be held at the Ratz-Bechtel Family Centre. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Mark's Lutheran Church would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be made at www.mem.com.
