    Schmidt, Mrs. Catherine (Cass) - Suddenly, on Sunday, April 13, 2003, at St. Mary's General Hospital, Kitchener, Cass Schmidt, of New Hamburg.

    She was born in Blandford Township 78 years ago, a daughter of the late Isaac and Gertrude (Gow) Nahrgang. She was a member of Zion United Church, New Hamburg, a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 532, Ladies Auxiliary, New Hamburg where she had been corresponding secretary, a member of the Restless Seniors, New Hamburg and enjoyed bowling, knitting and playing cards and darts as her hobbies.

    Beloved wife of Eric Schmidt; who predeceased her February 10, 2002. Loving mother of Jean and Jack Davidson of Goderich, Shirley at home, Sharon and Tom Clements of New Hamburg, and Douglas who predeceased her in 1968. Ever missed and loved by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Bill and his wife Rose Nahrgang of Rostock, Joyce Schwoob of Kitchener, Jean Broda of New Hamburg, Donna and Randy Snelgrove of Toronto. Also remembered by a number of nieces and nephews. Cass was also predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Percy and two brothers-in-law, Don Schwoob and Fred Broda.

    Visitation at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg today (Monday) 7-9 pm, Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm and where the funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, April 16, 2003, with Pastor Bob Thaler officiating. Burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery, New Hamburg.

    Catherine married Eric John Schmidt 11 Oct 1941. Eric (son of John Schmidt and Mary Jane Wilhelm) was born 6 Mar 1919, North Easthope Twp., Perth Co., Ontario, Canada; died 10 Feb 2002, Kitchener, Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada; was buried 14 Feb 2002, Riverside Cemetery, New Hamburg, Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada.     Douglas Schmidt Killed In Accident

    Douglas Schmidt, 25, of Stratford, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Eric Schmidt, New Hamburg, was killed as a result of a single car accident north of Milverton on Saturday night, December 28.

    The accident occurred at 11:30 p.m. when the car in which Mr. Schmidt was driving struck a bridge abutment on Highway 19, five miles north of Milverton. He was alone in the car.

    The police cruiser from Milverton was the first on the scene. Both men in the police cruiser who were making a preliminary investigation, Norman Arand, RR 2. Milverton and a part-time constable of the village of Milverton, Mark Jutzi, were struck by a car driven by George Elg, RR 2, Milverton.

    An OPP cruiser from the Listowel detachment arrived at the double accident scene a short time later and both injured men were removed to hospital. Mr. Schmidt died at the scene.

    Surviving Mr. Schmidt, besides his parents, are his wife, the former Sally Jones; one son, Terry and one daughter, Tammy, all of Owen Sound and three sisters, Mrs. Jack (Jean) Davidson of Stratford, Mrs. Thomas (Sharon) Clements and Shirley, both of New Hamburg.

    Services were held at Zion United Church, New Hamburg last Tuesday.

    Temporary entombment was held in the Graff Memorial Chapel, New Hamburg.

    The Bruce J. Omand Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
