Death of Mr. Jacob Saltzberry - One of the old pioneers has passed away in the person of Mr. Jacob Saltzberry. He had made his home for the last 3 years with his daughter, Esther (Mrs. Miller), Haysville. For the last ten weeks he had been ailing with dropsy and on Sunday, Aug. 20th, about 10 o'clock a.m. passed quietly away in his 87th year. He leaves to mourn his loss, 3 daughters, Lovina, Mrs. J. T. Underwood; Esther, Mrs. Geo. A. Miller, Haysville and Mary, Mrs. H. P. Ellis, Berlin. One son and two daughters died several years ago, Moses, Veronica, Mrs. A. Hilborn and Katherine, Mrs. Geo. Miller. His wife predeceased him about 9 years. the funeral will be held from Mrs. Miller's residence in Haysville to Blenheim cemetery. Service at the house at 1.30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22nd.

Underwood, formerly Leovina Saltzberry, passed away at her home 65 Glasgow street Sunday morning. Deceased was born at New Dundee, Nov. 7, 1855 and was in her 69^th year. She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Ina (Mrs. Sahli) at home, and six sons, Obal of Sandwich, Ira, Oscar, Milo and Lloyd all of this city, and Harry of Waterloo. There are also 24 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. W. P. Ellis of this city and Mrs. George Miller of Haysville. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock from the residence to Calvary Memorial church. Burial will take place in Woodland cemetery (sic).

Haysville

Death claimed another of our well respected citizens of Haysville on Monday, December 22nd, in the person of Mrs. G. A. Miller after an illness of about 6 weeks. In fact she hadn't been well all summer but had to give up a few weeks ago. She bore her sickness very patiently and was a woman that was well liked and respected by everyone. The deceased was in her 69th year and leaves to mourn her loss besides her sorrowing husband, five daughter and two sons, namely, Mrs. Eldon Gehman, of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Theo. Fetter, of Kitchener, Mrs. Harvey Brunk, of New Dundee, Mrs. Wm. Love, of near Plattsville, and William, Harry and Iva at home. The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon from her late residence to the Haysville church thence to Riverside Cemetery where interment took place. The officiating clergymen were Rev. M. Shantz for the home and Rev. J. H. Pogson assisted by Rev. E. L. Vivion, of Woodstock, at the church.

Underwood. He had lived in Kitchener for the past 70 years and was employed by Uniroyal Ltd., for 26 years before retiring in 1951. Surviving besides his wife, the former Elizabeth Gerber who he married Sept. 5, 1907 in Kitchener, are: four sons, Lorne of Kitchener, Howard and Robert, both of Waterloo, and James who is serving with the Canadian Armed Forces in Victoria, B.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Elsie) Moogk of Waterloo and Mildred of Kitchener; two brothers, Ira and Milo, both of Kitchener; a sister, Mrs. Edwin (Ina) Sahli of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Ralph G., who was killed overseas in 1944, four brothers and a sister. The body is at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home where the funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. conducted by Dr. J. V. Dahms, minister of Calvary United Church. Mrs. Katherine Rickert, 63, of 65A Church St., died today in K-W Hospital, after a brief illness.

Born Dec. 30, 1897, in Guelph, she was a daughter of the late Harry Ellis and the former Mary Salzberg.

She was a member of St. Andrew's Anglican Church and was active in the Patricia Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. Her husband, Stanley, died in 1937. He was proprietor of Rickert's Dairy for many years.

Survivors include one son, Stanley of Kitchener; one daughter, Mrs. William (Bette) Hallman of Kitchener; one brother, Charles of Detroit; four sisters, Mrs. Walter (Florence) Eager and Mrs. Jack (Ethel) Head of Toronto, Mrs. Ray (Grace) Gillespie and Mrs. Louis (Della) Hofstetter of Kitchener; and six grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Gordon (Cora) Daub, predeceased her.

The body is at the Schreiter Sandrock Funeral Home where the funeral will be conducted Saturday at 2 pm by Rev. C.L. Ladds. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

SARARUS, Miriam - Called to her Heavenly Home on Friday May 25, 2007 at The Westmount Nursing Home, Kitchener, in her 93rd year. A life-long resident of New Dundee she was born on June 7, 1913, a daughter of the late Ivan M. Hilborn and his wife, the former Myrtle Cassel. On November ll, 1969 she was married to Weston Sararus who predeceased her in 1992. She was the Village Correspondent for several area newspapers for 72 years. The longest member of the New Dundee United Brethren in Christ Church, she was a former organist and choir director for nearly 30 years and also served as a Sunday School teacher and financial secretary. She was a life member of the Women's Missionary Association of which she was a trustee for 24 years and secretary of the Ontario Branch for 22 years. She also served as secretary of the Ontario Conference Board of Christian Education for over 30 years. A life-long Christian Endeavourer, she was secretary of the Canadian Christian Endeavour Union for 14 years and secretary of the Programe Committee for the 16th World's C.E. convention held in Kitchener-Waterloo in 1970. Surviving are a stepdaughter Vaughn and her husband George Waddle of New Hamburg and three stepsons, Lynn and his wife Marilyn, Brian and his wife Carol of RR 1, New Dundee and Brad and his wife Glori of Elora, 14 grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren and 3 great-great- grandchildren. Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home , 621 King St. W., Kitchener, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at the New Dundee United Brethren in Christ Church at 2 p.m. with Reverend James Somerville officiating. SIM, Dorothy M. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy May Sim (nee Sahli) peacefully in her sleep on December 1, 2018, at UH in London, in her 96th year. Dorothy was the loving wife of the late John (Jock 2016). Dorothy is survived by her children, John (Wendy) of Port Stanley and Janet (Ulli) of Germany. Dorothy was loved and cherished by her 6 Grandchildren: Jeff (Michelle), London; Joel (Jenn), SC; Jason (Tammy), Kilworth; Mandy (Colin), Woodstock; Victoria (Eric), Mt. Bridges; Heather (Comacho), Brantford; and by her 13 Great Grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents. Dorothy's focus in life was family, church, travel, friendships, and 35 years of volunteering with "Meals on Wheels" in London. She is also survived by nieces and nephews from Jock's family. Mom will be truly missed by our family. We are comforted in knowing that she's now reunited with our Dad. Theirs was truly a remarkable marriage. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

KIPFER, Myrtle Esther - On Sunday, May 24, 2009, Myrtle Esther (Love) Kipfer was welcomed in to her eternal home by her loved husband, Clarence (1990). Her daughters, Judy Truax and Carol Kipfer were privileged to share her last hours. Myrtle now joins her son-in-law, Paul Truax (1982). The daughter of William and Edith (Miller) Love, Myrtle had lived for many years in Haysville and had more recently been a resident at Nithview Home where the second floor staff provided loving care and brightened many of her days. The family had been active members of St. Georges Anglican Church, New Hamburg, and had, in later years worshiped at St. Andrews Anglican Church, Kitchener. Myrtle was predeceased by her two brothers, Willard Love and wife May, and Cecil Love and wife Hazel; and by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gordon Kipfer and wife Helen and Rose (Kipfer) Tycholiz and husband Tony. The family will share memories of Myrtle at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home , 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg, on Wednesday, May 27 from 5-8 p.m. On Thursday, May 28, 2009, burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery New Hamburg at 1:30 p.m. followed by a celebration of Myrtle's life at 2:30 p.m. at St. James Anglican Chapel of Ease, #3449 Huron Road, New Hamburg, Ontario. St. George's Anglican church, Guelph, was the scene of a pretty wedding this afternoon when Miss Mary (Mollie) Warner, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Norris Warner of Toronto, became the bride of Mr. S. Ellis Rickert, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Rickert of Kitchener.

The young people were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Gordon L. Finck of this city.

After the ceremony the bridal party returned to Kitchener where a wedding dinner was served at the home of the bridegroom's parents.
After the dinner Mr. and Mrs. Rickert left by motor to spend their honeymoon in the Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado.
Upon their return they will take up residence in Kitchener.

Jack was a past president of the Lutheran Laymens League, as well as the Wellesley and District Board of Trade. He was employed for 38 years at Ornamental Mouldings Ltd. of Waterloo. Mr. Hofstetter was a veteran of the Second World War.

(Wagner) Hofstetter of Wellesley; loving father of Lorrie and her husband Paul Detzler of Wellesley, Tim and his wife Sherry Hofstetter of Waterloo; lovingly remembered by his mother-in-law, Hilda Wagner of Wellesley and by his six grandchildren, James, Sarah, Emily and Mark Detzler, Rachel and T.J.
